Star Prairie Fish & Game Association February Meeting

Monday, February 16, 2009 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 

     The February meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:00 pm by Vice President      Chuck Magoon

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.  Treasurer Nelson investigated other interest bearing accounts and determined that the club was not eligible for the special offers that were discussed at the January meeting.

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Senior Pontoon ride : Tabled
  2. Fisheries/Habitat :  46 cribs were built on Saturday, January 31.  All went well with the process on a beautiful day.  A proposal for placing cribs on the south-east part of the lake, near the McMurtrie preserve next year, was discussed.  The Stone lake group has borrowed one of the sleds and broke the winch switch, they inquired on the price to purchase the damaged one, the club decided on a price of $2000 for the damaged sled, or $2500 for a new one, Bob Swanda will contact them with the details.   A lake cleanup will be held Saturday, Feb 21, meet at the north Cedar lake landing at 9:00 AM.
  3. Park Party :   The Star Prairie Lions club would like to meet with us to discuss the tie – ins of the Park Party to Ox Cart days. 
  4. Buck’s Night :   The club will buy back any new, unused guns that were won at Buck’s night at the clubs purchase price.
  5. McMurtrie/Land Trust : The building committee met with Kim O’Connell who is obtaining  quotes on basic utility services.
  6. OutReach/Youth :  Jon Bush reported on the second weekend of the Community Fishing Opportunity (CFO) .  Thanks to all club members that helped out, the event will be advertised again next fall, Big Brothers/Sisters groups had the best response to the program.  Craig Warren is continuing to investigate the possibility of a Youth Turkey hunt this Spring.
  7. The club has 20 members paid for 2009, Larry Suenen and Bill Driscoll jo9ined the club this month. 

 

 

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.       The New Richmond Sports Association ice fishing contest on Cedar lake was held on Feb. 14.   There were about 1000 participants, it was held on the west side of the lake with parking on the ice.   There was an informal snowmobile radar run on the same day, Warden Dave Hausman discussed some of the enforcement issues with this.  Club involvement in next years contest was discussed, with possibly a club booth to provide information , sell club hats, etc.

2.      The Indianhead Pheasants Forever banquet will be on March 20 at the TAC.  Special 25th anniversary guns have been engraved with PF and SPF&G logos for both our clubs fund raisers.

3.      The letter to the ice fishing community on Cedar lake, to remind them of their responsibility to control litter and behavior, and to keep Cedar lake a safe and desirable place to ice fish, is ready to distribute. It will be handed out to people on the lake on the clean-up day.

4.      Dave Peterson is organizing a tour of the Spooner State Fish Hatchery this spring, interested members should contact him.  Visits to St. Croix Falls and Osceola hatcheries are also possible.

5.      The north Cedar lake school house property purchase by the DNR is moving forward, an appraised value of $36,000 has been agreed to.  A 20 year maintenance agreement on the parking lot and a 5 year lease on the building for the community club usage is part of the deal.

 

 

 

          The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday March 16, 2009 with the 6:00 pm social hour and the 7:00 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar lake.
