Star Prairie Fish & Game Association June Meeting

     The June meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:15 pm President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Senior Pontoon ride : Was held on Wed. June 10,  13 pontoons were available with 11 used for 115 people on a drizzly, but later on, pleasant day.  A fall ride may be held in September or early October.
  2. Fisheries/Habitat :   Tabled
  3. Park Party :   Trigger Happy will again be the evening band, with Ten Mile Creek  to play the 5 – 8 PM slot.   Four Bartender licenses will be required, volunteers filled out the paper work at the meeting.
  4. Buck’s Night :   Games will be the much the same as last year, with an in-between card game added and the spin to win repaired..   The 10 gun raffle guns have all been purchased and are about ready to go to the bars for display with the raffle tickets.  The prize for the bar drawing will be the Monday night Packer – Baltimore game.   Dan Michaelis will run a credit card for cash or payments system at Buck’s night.   Guns were purchased from Russel’s, Mork’s, and Gregerson’s
  5. McMurtrie/Land Trust :   Tabled.
  6. OutReach/Youth :  Club identifying signs will be placed on long term wildlife/habitat projects.    The Bob Moberg scholarship was presented on May 22 to Tom Volkert (NR high) who plans to attend UWRF.   The club paid $220.62 for lunch costs of the Youth fishing day.  $100 was donated to the Friends of the Willow for the Fun-Fest canoe races.
  7. The club has 30 members paid for 2009, and 15 Life ( age 65 and older).   . 

 

 

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.       Tom Kerr reported on the cooperative Pheasant Stamp grant  with USF&W and the club, work will be done on the Stanton Prairie WPA to remove trees and restore prairie plantings.  The local USF&W manages about 8,000 acres of property, maps of the Water Fowl Production Areas (WPA’s) can be found on the USF&W web site.  Tom described the “Ducks on a Stick” program of mounted local duck species for educational purposes and will be looking for specific species this fall that can be donated to the program.  Tom also outlined the some of the grassland rand wetland restoration projects in our area.

2.      The Natural Resources board will visit River Island park on June 23 at 2:40, club directors will be there to answer questions.

3.      The dedication of The Schottler property by the Star Prairie Land Preservation Trust will be on June 24, at 6:00 PM, club members are welcome to attend.

4.      The north Cedar lake school house property purchase by the DNR has been completed for $36,000.

5.      Trout Fest at the Star Prairie trout farm was held on Memorial day, May 25, about 350 people attended.. 

6.       The Cedar lake invasive species inspections at the north boat landing began on June 12

7.      The club was informed that the cost of the CIP work force will increase from $15 a day to $2 a day per inmate.

 

          The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, July 19, 2009 with the 6:00 pm social hour and the 7:00 pm regular meeting at the Menke garage at the end of South Cedar drive.
