Star Prairie Fish & Game Association September Meeting

Monday, September 21, 2009 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 

     The September meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:00 pm  President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Senior Pontoon ride : A fall pontoon ride on Cedar lake was held on Sept. 2  with 15 seniors from the St. Croix Health Center who could not make the spring ride.  .
  2. Fisheries/Habitat :   tabled
  3. Park Party :   Was held on Aug 20 with good attendance.  The event had a loss of about $1100, but with unsold beer that offsets some of this amount.  Discussion was held on making food and beer tickets the same price again next year.
  4. Buck’s Night :   The committee and interested members will meet soon to finalize Bucks Night to be held on Nov. 16 at Ready Randys.  Printing for the event will be done by member Jerome Sorenson at Clear Choice in Amery.  The buffet menu and game details will be completed soon.
  5. McMurtrie/Land Trust :   The club thanks member Ray Berry for the donation of a large parking lot light and pole.
  6. OutReach/Youth :  The club made donations to Pheasants Forever, Kinni chapter of $200 and to Bank Electric and Arlen Luehman for Park party donations, of $50 each.
  7. The club has 38 members paid for 2009, and 15 Life ( age 65 and older).   . 

 

 

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.       Paul Sickman discussed the Youth day event at Forrest Ridge to be held on Sat. Oct 3.  About 300 invitations have been sent to area Hunters Ed graduates.  Their will be Trap, Archery, Fishing, Pheasant hunt, and dog demos at the event.  The club will sponsor the lunch and help man the activities.   Paul also discussed some of the issues around the recently passed new law that provides 10 year old hunting opportunities.

2.      Dave Hanke explained the Custom Rod building class that he teaches at WITC.  The class builds custom rods at a cost of $71 plus $40 for material, with the first class beginning on Oct 21.

3.      The Wisconsin Wildlife Federation has sent letters to club members asking them to contact their state representatives in support of a bill that restores appointment of the DNR Secretary to the Natural Resources board instead of the Governor.

4.      Member Terry Zais discussed the opportunity for the club to construct and donate easels to local schools.

 

          The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, October 19 2009 with the 6:00 pm social hour and the 7:00 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake
