Star Prairie Fish & Game Association March Meeting

March 20th, 2006 – Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

The March meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:00 pm by Vice President Chuck Magoon.

The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

Reports for each committee were given as highlighted:

1.    The Bucks Night Committee has secured a Winchester rifle for the 2006 event.

2.    The Disabled Hunt Committee has had a March planning meeting and will advise the club of decisions when plans are finalized.

3.    The Park Party Committee has also made plans for their 2006 event. Chairman Magoon indicated he may have a summer commitment and perhaps will need more help as time goes on with the organization of this event.

Old Business:

1.    Other fund raising events are being considered but will be self supporting and not rely on sponsorships. Anyone with ideas should work with Dan and Mike to get them off the ground.

2.    The new club emblem has been engraved on another new stock for the Golden Boy Rifle. Earl Mork will be provided the new stock to affix to the rifle from the 2005 Bucks Night function.

3.    Twelve new club vests have been purchased and the new emblem will be sewn onto them.

4.    There was much discussion on the sled used to transport the fish cribs out onto the ice during our 2006 February crib building day. The Cedar Lake Protection District provided the funds for the construction of that sled. It was felt that a second sled would provide a back up for future crib construction and potentially increase the capability of building and positioning more cribs each winter. A motion was made, seconded and approved to commission a second sled’s construction before the 2007 crib building season.

New Business:

1.    Affiliate membership in the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation was applied for by the SPF&GA with an updated membership list of 51 active members submitted.

2.    The SPF&GA has received the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation’s 2005 Local Conservation Club of the Year Award. It will be presented on April 8th in Tomah, Wisconsin. Mike has agreed to go down to accept the award on behalf of the club. A motion was made seconded and approved to pay expenses incurred on behalf of the club in accepting this award.

3.    A form and questionnaire for Teaming with Wildlife will be filled out and filed with the State. Federal and State funds will be made available to the State through the coalition’s conservation efforts.

4.    There is a secure site on our website that can be accessed through the use of a password that is available to current club members.

5.    A letter was received by the club requesting a rental price of $400 for a three year period (2006-2009) of a current sigh that is permanently placed at the Star Prairie Ball Field. There was much discussion of the pros and cons of this sign. It was felt that if necessary the sign could be used to promote some of our current projects and be replaced from time to time during the course of the year. It was also felt by some that the SPF&GA need not advertise itself. Other felt it was a partnership with the Village that should be maintained. A motion was made, seconded and approved to continue with the rental of the signage for the next three year period.

6.    Work has been done on seven of the River Island Park benches by club members. Repairs have been made, the rough wood sanded, stained and sealed. This should increase the longevity of these benches for a few more years.

7.    Resolutions for a reduction in panfish bag limits in St Croix County’s water from 25 to 10 and a protective slot size on walleyes (14-18 inches) with a walleye bag limit reduction from 5 to 3 on Cedar Lake was again reviewed. The panfish resolution would be submitted by the St Croix County Alliance of Sportsmen while the Cedar Lake walleye resolution would be submitted by the Cedar Lake District at the 2006 Spring Hearings to be held on April 10th in New Richmond.

The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, April 17th with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm.

                                                                            Respectfully submitted

                                              Mike Reiter (Recorder)
