Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting

November 6th, 2006 – Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

     The November meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dan Bygd.

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

 

Reports for each committee were given:

 

  1. Plans at the McMurtrie Preserve are again moving forward. The driveway to the property off of highway M will be improved this fall.
  2. The Handicap hunt was held on October 7th with 12 hunters participating. Thirty nine of the 150 birds were brought home by the hunters. Each hunter had the opportunity for 3 hunts with 3 birds each hunt. The handicapped Hunt was again a huge success with many local hunters participating. Sponsors contributed  $1360.00 with expenses totaling $1663.00.
  3. Two hundred adult rooster pheasants were released for public hunting on Friday, October 20th by club members. Expenses for the purchased birds were split with the St. Croix County Alliance of Sportsman’s Clubs. Release sites are available upon request.
  4. Oak logs for fish crib building will be ordered soon. Wood is a bit cheaper this year and plans are being considered to build twice the number of cribs for placement in Cedar Lake. Twenty cords will be ordered with costs to be split with the Cedar Lake District. Brush has also been collected and stacked from tree removal for the South Cedar Bay Landing.
  5. It was reported that Dan Cain and his wife are the proud parents of a 9 pound, 4 ounce baby boy.
  6. No reports were provided by Outreach, Park Party, or Pontoon Ride committees.
  7. Current membership stands at 56 paid members.

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Planning for the upcoming Bucks Night on November 13th was the main focus of the meeting tonight. Sponsors were identified, and a running total of donations were tabulated. Remaining sponsors will be contacted again. This all needs to be accomplished by Wednesday, November 8th so the programs for the event can be printed.

2.    All the firearms to be provided by the club for the event were brought to the meeting and decisions were made as to where they would be offered in the program. Presently 45 firearms will be given out at the 2006 Bucks Night Event.

3.    Various games to be held at the event were described and individuals to man these games were listed. Other prizes beside the firearms were also described.

4.    Gun registration will be provided as a service with the appropriate information called in that evening.

5.    Gibby’s will provide the food at $9.00 per plate which includes the tip.

6.    Members are to meet at Gibby’s for set up at 5 pm on Sunday, November 12th. Set up will continue at noon on Monday, November 13th.  Workers should be at Gibby’s no later than 4:30 Monday, November 13th. Clean up follows the next morning.

7.    Budgeted expenses for firearm purchase were set at $19, 000.00. We were able to provide quality items for $16,576.00.

8.    Signs to be hung at Bucks Night will also be available.

9.    Members are reminded that club vests must be worn at the event.

10. The attendee gift this year will be a soft sided beverage container with the club logo.

11. Gander Mountain has inquired about donations for our event. Because of timing, a representative to Gander Mountain will be contacted and tickets made available for a number of them to attend. Any donations from Gander Mountain that can be agreed upon will be indicated on the program. A meeting will be set up with them after Bucks Night and planning for the 2007 Bucks Night can begin with the extent of Gander Mountain’s involvement delineated.

12. It was noted that on Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 there will be a wild game feed provided free of charge at the Outpost. Donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to the Star Prairie Fish & Game Association.

 

            The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, December 18th with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
