Star Prairie Fish & Game Association September Meeting
September 18th, 2006 – Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake
The September
meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dan Bygd.
The Secretary’s
and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.
Reports for each
committee were given:
- The
educational building plans on the McMurtrie Preserve are again moving
forward. A land swap of property to allow for the placement of a viable
septic system is being considered with no appraisal and survey needed.
Deed restrictions presently in place complicated the issue but covenants
can now be swapped according to the DNR. There are several options that
are being considered and will be addressed. Plans will move forward when
these issues are formalized.
- Gibby’s
Lanes will be the location of our 2006 Bucks Night fund raiser to be held
on Monday, November 13th due to alcohol policy changes
implemented at the New Richmond Armory. Gibby’s will cater the food at a
cost of $9.00 per plate. There was talk of increasing the attendance up to
245 for the event. Terry Zais read off Bucks Night committee assignments
and changes with games and prizes were discussed.
- Terry
Zais and Marty Powers reported that plans are moving along for the
upcoming handicapped pheasant hunt to be held on October 7th.
Order for 150 pheasants will be placed this year at a cost of $8.60 per
bird. Help will be needed on October 6th with helpers meeting
at the Star Prairie Ball
Park at 5 pm.
- It was
reported that the Hudson Rod & Gun Club will not be participating in
the pheasant purchase and release this year. The Glenwood Club is still
interested and plans will move forward with the Alliance again providing funds for half
the cost of the purchase of the birds up to 200 birds per club. Thank you
card were sent around from land owners that have put in food plots and
received compensation from the club.
- The
Park Party was again a big success with sponsorships accounted for a large
part of income for the event. It was essentially a break even event with
lots of hard work going in to making it the success it was. Projected
budgets and final income/expense handouts were provided. .
Old Business:
1.
The club cap supply is dwindling and new caps
will be delivered in three colors arriving on November 17th. Caps
will cost $4.25 per unit.
2.
The SPF&GA sponsored a Youth Hunt at the
Forest Ridge Hunting Club on September 9th with the commitment to
split half the cost of the lunch which was provided at no cost to the
participants. Twenty-two youth attended the event to hunt pheasants and take
part in numerous outdoor demonstrations. Half the cost of the pheasants was
also picked up by the SPF&GA. Dan Cain and Marty Powers helped out at the
event and provided a “glowing report” of its success. Plans are for a bigger
and better event next year.
3.
Dan Cain purchased two SPF&GA club banners
for the club and delivered them at the meeting.
4.
Don Demulling showed the club an example of the
“club card” that has been ordered and will be available at the next meeting.
5.
Dan Bygd presented the club a print received
from the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. It will be framed and reside in the
club’s “trophy corner” in Don Madsen’s garage.
New Business:
- The
2006 New Richmond Ducks Unlimited Banquet will be held on September 28th
at R&D Catering South of New Richmond on Highway 65.
- The
new Star Prairie Land Preservation Trust Brochure was handed out. The land
trust recently acquired the 3.5 acre tract of land on the mouth of Horse Creek
where it enters Cedar
Lake. Conservation
easements are also owned by the Trust on land recently sold from the Old
Nelson Farm off highway “H” near the Apple River.
- The
county land west of Hatfield
Lake will be opened
this year to public hunting. Hunters will need to send in an application
form which can be found on the Willow River Rod & Gun Club website
(willowriver.org) to obtain permission to hunt. This application form and
map of the area should be available shortly.
The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, October 16th
with the 6 pm social hour
and the 7 pm regular
meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar
Lake
With no further
business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10
pm.

submitted
