Star Prairie Fish & Game Association February Meeting

June 18, 2007 – Star Prairie
Village Park
The June meeting
of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:30
pm by President Dan Bygd.
The Secretary’s
and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

Committee Reports :
- Committee
reports for Outreach, and Youth
were tabled.
- Fisheries/Habitat
: Food plots have been planted,
weed spraying to follow. About ½ of
the prairie grass planting has been completed, including 120 acres at Willow River State park.
- Bucks
Night : All but one of the guns are currently being displayed in area
taverns, the Packer ticket give-away to the top tavern seller of raffle
tickets was received quite well.
Bucks Night is Monday, November 12. Members are encouraged to thank the
taverns that are displaying guns and signs, and selling tickets for the
gun raffle.
- Park
Party : Bob Swanda reports that Trigger Happy and the Fiddler have been
booked to again play at the Park Party, which is set for August 14, 2007. The park will open at 1:00 with food and refreshments and
possible entertainment. A committee
meeting will be held shortly to finalize details. A proposed new flyer was distributed for
comments. The silent auction was
discussed and a decision made to procure a Canadian fishing trip as an
auction item again this year.
- Education Building : Deeds have been signed for the land swap
for perc-able land for the septic system.
Driveway elevations have been taken, the driveway installation work
will be put out for bids very soon.
- Current
2007 membership stands at 47 paid members in good standing. 25 former members have been put on an
inactive list and will be sent reminders that 2007 dues have not been
paid. The e-mail distribution list
was reviewed prior to the meeting and updated.
- Sr.
Pontoon rides : 102 seniors took part in the pontoon rides and trout
cook-out on Wed. June 13 on Cedar Lake on a beautiful day. 11 pontoons were used this year. The cost for the food was $787.00. A decision was made to accommodate 10 –
20 more seniors next year.
- Liability
and Errors and Omissions Insurance has been renewed for the next year with
the Dowd Reliance agency. It
includes one million dollars in liability, and $5000 in medical coverage. The premium is about $1,500.00. Any club member who has contacts with
other agencies, for competitive bids for next year should contact the
board of directors.
Old Business/New
Business:
1.
The club sponsored Bob Moberg memorial
scholarship was given to NR high school student Ben Mortenson of Star Prairie
by Jeff Moberg at the school awards day.
2.
A motion
was made to donate half the cost of a Prairie planting at the new Star Prairie
town hall, of about $400.
3.
Special awards of Fishing Rods were presented to
Kyle Kulow and Dave Larson for their fine work on the planning, construction
and completion of the board walk and winter access on the south west bay of
Cedar Lake
4.
Phyllis Menke, who donated the land for the
McMurtrie preserve on Cedar lake will be staying at the family cabin beginning
the end of June, Stuart Nelson will arrange a social gathering with the Menke’s
and the club during their stay.
5.
The Indianhead Bassers sponsored a kid’s fishing
day on June 2. 12 boats were on hand
for a fishing outing with kids ages 8 to 13.
The kids were given prizes of 2 rods and reels, fishing tackle and
lunch. The club sponsored the lunch
and refreshments. Anyone who knows of a
youth who would be interested in next years outing should contact Erv Erickson.
6.
Jack
Hayes presented information on the Cedar
Lake Community
Center that uses the old school building at the
north landing on Cedar
Lake. The group is looking for assistance in
keeping the Center open. It was agreed
that the building, parking area, and boat ramp area are all of concern to the
club. An investigation as to the
ownership of this area and possible club involvement with this will continue.
7.
A tour of the Star Prairie trout farm preceded
the meeting, thanks to Jeff & Barb for the tour and the great meal of
barbecued trout. The smoked trout dip
was excellent !
The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, July 16,
with the 6 pm social hour
and the 7 pm regular
meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar
Lake
With no further
business the meeting was adjourned at 8:20
pm.
