Old Business/New
Business:
1.
The DNR Spring Hearings were held on Monday,
April 16. The St. Croix county hearings were
held at WITC in New Richmond. The
walleye regulation change on Cedar
Lake had verbal support,
the panfish limit change to 10 in St. Croix County had opposition, but the feeling
was that it would pass in St. Croix and Polk
counties. Fish manager Marty Engel gave
a compelling argument for the panfish limit reduction.
2.
The winter access on the southwest bay of Cedar
lake has had work done on it by the township.
3.
The
Wisconsin Wildlife Federation voted 57-11 to support a band on deer baiting and
feeding. Mike Reiter arranged for a
proxy vote for the club in support of the ban.
4.
The DNR wardens have met with a person that has
been identified as one of the responsible parties for moving 2 of the fish
cribs that the club built on Cedar lake.
Resolution of the incident is still pending.
5.
Half the Ditch cleanup on the mile of Highway 65
closest to Star Prairie was completed on April 17, 7 club volunteers
participated.
6.
The NR high school service learning day is
Thursday, May 17. A group of students
will assemble the boardwalk at the winter access in the south-west bay of Cedar
lake. Club members available to assist
should meet at the winter access at 9:00
A.M.
7.
The Bob Moberg scholarship in the amount of
$1000.00 will be presented to the selected student at the NR awards day on May
27, by club president Dan Bygd.
8.
The club donated a framed print for the Barry
Schmidt benefit at Gibbys Lanes last weekend.
9.
A Handicapped fishing event is being sponsored
by the Richardson’s
Sportsmans club on the first weekend in June on Lake Magnor. Interested parties can contact the club or
Rich Miller.
10.
A wood duck nesting box was donated to Marcie
Armstrong for her support of the club.
11.
Members interested in a swan banding project
using kayaks to capture the young birds should contact Chuck Magoon. Anyone who knows of a swan nest site should
contact the US Fish & Wildlife service with location details.
12.
Chuck Magoon proposed that the club identify a
new project to work on, some ideas suggested were : Wild Rice planting in Cedar
lake, creek improvements from Cedar lake to Horse Creek, Apple river
restoration to the Alden bridge. Put on your thinking caps and come up with
some other ideas
The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, May 21, with
the 6 pm social hour and
the 7 pm regular meeting at
Don Madsen’s on Cedar
Lake
With no further
business the meeting was adjourned at 8:41
pm.
Respectfully submitted
Mike Kelly (Recorder)
