Star Prairie Fish & Game Association May Meeting

May 21st, 2007– Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

     The October meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dan Bygd.

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

     Stu reported that Val Jacklin’s dock has been upgraded to provide safe access for the upcoming Senior Pontoon ride scheduled for June 13th, thirteen guns have also been purchased for display at various local establishments and our 2006 taxes have been filed on time. Copies of the tax forms were circulated.

     The New Richmond High School Service Day was a huge success with 22 students from the Alternative High School Class helping in board walk placement at South Cedar Bay Landing. A variety of other activities were also performed during the morning activities. A workday to finish up the project has been set for May 24th starting at 1 pm for club members.

     A letter of commendation will be sent to Bob Heise of the Land and Water Conservation Office commending Kyle Kulow of the Land and Water Conservation Office for the work and oversight he has provided for the South Cedar Bay Project along with help on other projects he has helped the SPF&GA. A small token of appreciation will also be purchased and presented to him at a later date.

     Aleisha Miller has held classes at the McMurtrie Preserve for groups of Osceola Middle School Students on April 25th with a group of Amery students also scheduled for May 25th classes.

    

Reports for each committee were given:

  1. Bucks Night plans for 2007 are progressing. Thirteen guns have been purchased and a decision will be made as to where the event will be held. Pricing will be obtained from Ready Randy’s, Suzanna’s and Gibby’s before any final decision is made. Raffle tickets were handed out to members for purchase or sale. An all expense paid trip for two to the Packer Game on December 9th will be a prize offered in a drawing for establishments that sell raffle tickets. One chance will be placed in a drawing for each 50 tickets sold. Sponsors are needed and decisions to finalize the event will be made in future Bucks Night meetings.
  2.  The Park Party Event is still in the planning stages. Posters will be printed and distributed, a letter to the Village of Star Prairie will be drafted advising them of the event and beverage sale licenses will be obtained shortly.
  3. The Senior Pontoon Ride Event is becoming finalized with Ray Berry reporting on the event. Letters have been sent to pontoon owners, the park has been reserved and trout ordered for the lunch. The Queen Candidates will be helping with set up and will serve food following the ride. Three vans will be obtained from Johnson Motors, with Gene, Don and Erv serving as drivers. Tables and chairs will be obtained from the Lion’s Club. Door prizes will be solicited and music will also be provided. The event will start at 1:00 with the rides beginning at 1:30 pm.
  4. All other committee reports were tabled.

 

 

Old/New Business:

1.    On June 2nd the Indianhead Bassers will sponsor a youth fishing outing on Long Lake. The SPF&GA has agreed to provide the funds for food at the function.

2.    Ernie Shores explained about work he and 15 area youth has been involved with. There have been a variety of projects including trash pick up on the Rush and Kinni Rivers and trout stocking on area streams. His group is called KYI or Keeping Youth Involved. He is interested in other projects which could be sponsored by the SPF&GA. Club hats will be provided to participating youth.

3.     President Dan Bygd will continue to seek a Liability Waiver from the Village of Star Prairie for the River Island Park.

4.    The Bob Moberg Memorial Scholarship will again be presented to a deserving student by President Dan Bygd during the award presentations for 2007. A report will be given by Dan at the next meeting.

5.    Interested members of the SPF&GA may get involved in the trumpeter swan banding project if and when they are contacted about the effort.

6.    A discussion was held concerning the punishment deemed appropriate for the individuals that moved the fish cribs on Cedar Lake. A board decision will be forthcoming on this subject.

7.    An open house at the Star Prairie Trout Farm will be held on Monday, May 25th, from 1-5 pm. Members of the SPF&GA are urged to attend.

8.    The Wisconsin Warden Association is in need of recipes for their cookbook that they are putting together as a potential fund raiser.

9.    The SPF&GA will be a sponsor for the 2007 friends of the Willow River Canoe Race which will be held during the New Richmond Fun Festival.

 

            The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, June 18th  with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
