Star Prairie Fish & Game Association February Meeting

Monday, July 16, 2007 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

     The July meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:15 pm by President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

 

Meeting Guests :

 

  1. Wis DNR : Buzz Sorge   Eau Claire office.  Buzz reported on water quality issues in Cedar lake
  2. Phyllis & Bob Menke
  3. Wis DNR: Warden Paul Sickman,  Fisheries - Marty Engel
  4. New member : Jeff Taylor - Star Prairie Trout Farm

 

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Committee reports for  Outreach, and Youth, Fisheries/Habitat and Senior Pontoon rides were tabled.
  2. Bucks Night : Guns and signs are out in selected taverns and businesses for the gun raffle, a decision on the location for the event needs to be made soon.
  3. Park Party :  Date is Tuesday, August 14, bartender licenses will be applied for, posters were given to club members to display in local businesses.  The park will open at 1:00.
  4. Education Building :  Osceola and Amery school tours were held this summer.  The building committee is scheduled to meet soon to continue work on building plans.
  5. Current 2007 membership stands at 52 paid members in good standing.   5 former members responded to the reminder letter on unpaid 2007 dues.

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Thank you’s were received from : Kyle Kulow and Dave Larson for the fishing rods, Tom Kerr – USF&W for the opportunity to address the club, and Cindy Prokash from the Health Center for the Sr. Pontoon rides.   A $50 donation was also received from Devon Driscoll, and a $1000 donation from the Menke’s

2.    A Youth Hunt will be held August 25 at Forest Ridge Hunting club, 12- 15 year olds that graduated from Hunters Ed are eligible to participate.  Help is requested from the club with the event, contact warden Paul Sickman if you are available.

3.    A motion was passed to donate $300 to the Cedar Lake Community club to keep them active until a long term solution to protect the north end landing area on Cedar lake can be found.

4.    The Wisconsin DNR has a new toll free help line for information, it is available from 7:00 to 10:00, 7 days a week.  The number to dial is 1-888-WDNR-INF.

5.    A discussion on controlling the lake weeds growing through the boardwalk on the SW bay of Cedar lake resulted in the most practical solution identified was to pull or cut them by hand.

6.    Buzz Sorge is seeking grant money for a 3 year study of the algae problem on Cedar lake.  He reports that Cedar is a unique lake for water quality issues, it is not deep enough to stratify, and not shallow enough to mix from wind and wave action.

 

 

 

            The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, August 20, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:07 pm.
