Star Prairie Fish & Game Association September Meeting

Monday, September 17, 2007 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

     The September meeting of the SPF&GA was called to order at 7:07 pm by Vice President Chuck Magoon

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

 

Meeting Guests :

 

  1. US Fish and Wildlife : Tom Kerr
  2. Wis. DNR : Marty Engel
  3. Merle Ommen

 

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Committee reports for  Senior Pontoon rides and Fisheries/Habitat were tabled.
  2. Bucks Night : The November 12 event will be held at Ready Randy’s, sponsor lists were reviewed and members assigned to contact them.  Jon Bush drafted a letter to send to potential sponsors, this year dinner tickets will be given with sponsor donations of $200 or more. 
  3. Park Party : There are several delinquent sponsors that need to be contacted for their promised donations.
  4. Education Building :  Bids for the driveway will be let this week.  Kim O’Connell donated 2 days of labor to clear trees and brush and perform perk tests.   3 of 4 holes perked for the septic system, a well and septic system could possibly be started this fall.  A wetland will be created in the area where the driveway fill will be removed.   At this point, a restroom and covered shelter are the first building goals.
  5. Outreach/Youth : 50 young people attended the fall event at Forrest Ridge Hunt club and participated in the various activities including archery and hunting.  Our club donated 32 club hats, and half the meal cost.

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Marty Engel reported that the DNR has started a grant application for the purchase of the North landing area and building on Cedar Lake to protect the boat trailer parking area.  The club has donated $300 to the community club that currently uses the building.

2.    Craig Warren will look into ordering more vests for new members, with the club logo as well as a club shirt suitable for members to wear at Buck’s night.

3.    Club membership stands at 67 paid or Life members.

4.    Tom Kerr and Rich Miller gave a report on US Fish and Willife activities in the past year including acreage for burns, planting, and restoration.  Tom presented a request for the club to sponsor work/study student(s) to aid USF&W personnel on local projects.  A motion was passed to include $900 in the 2008 budget for this purpose.

5.    Marty Engel will locate new sites for this winters fish crib build on Cedar lake, probably near Don Demulling’s house on the mid east side of the lake.   Sixty pounds of wild rice seed were sown in the lake near the inlet.

6.    Don Madsen was presented with a special award, of a picture, for the continued use of his building for club meetings and activities.  Thanks, Don !

7.    Screen has been purchased to install under the boardwalk on the South Cedar bay access to prevent weeds from growing through the spaces in the board walk.  The NR Alternative school group will be solicited for the installation.

 

            The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, October 15, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:18 pm.
