Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting

     The January and annual meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:52 pm by President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.  All Bills have been paid.    

    

Election of Board members was held by the general membership, Officers were elected by the new board as follows :

 

Board Election :   Stuart Nelson, Dave Peterson, and Chuck Magoon were re-elected to the board.

2008 Officers :  President : Dan Bygd,   Vice President : Chuck Magoon,                     Treasurer : Stuart Nelson,   Secretary : Mike Kelly

2008 Committee Chairmen :

Park Party : Bob Swanda and Chuck Magoon

Buck’s Night : Craig Warren and Terry Zais

Habitat/Fisheries : Erv Erickson and Dan Cain

Outreach/Youth : Stuart Nelson and Dave Peterson

Senior Pontoon Rides : Ray Barry and Don Madsen

 

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Committee reports for Senior Pontoon rides and Buck’s night were tabled.

 

  1. Fisheries/Habitat : Everything is ready for the fish crib build on Cedar lake, this Saturday, Jan. 26.   All logs have been drilled, except the bottom layer, brush, blocks, and re-rod are set.  Lunch will be served at Don Madsen’s after the build.  Dan Cain reported on the Pheasant Fest show last weekend , over 30,000 attended.

 

  1. Park Party : Ideas on changes for next year, such as bands, dates, or exhibits need to begin now.  A committee meeting will be called.

 

  1. McMurtrie property/Land Trust : Construction of sewer, water ( for bathrooms) and an open pavilion are planned for McMurtrie in 2008.  The land trust is investigating the old NR Archery range and property owned by Schottlers, located north of Somerset pine lake.

 

  1. Outreach/Youth : Club donations made this last month : $100 to the Land Trust for membership, $250 to the St. Croix County Alliance for the Spring benefit, $200 to the Wanderoos Lions for the kids ice fishing event.  Stuart is working on a letter on our partnership in Conservation, to be sent with future donations.   A discussion was held on the club sponsoring additional opportunities for youth in the outdoors, additional club involvement in the Forest Ridge youth day was discussed.

 

  1. The club has 71 members in good standing.

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Wood duck nest houses will be built next week at Erv Ericksons.

2.    A Cedar Lake School property ( north Cedar lake access area ) meeting will be held Feb. 1.   It was determined that Alden Township owns the property with no reversionary clause.

3.    The 2008 club budget was distributed and explained, a motion was made and approved to accept the budget as printed.

4.    A discussion was held on naming the Cedar Lake dam after Jack Hayes, in recognition of his many years of service in the area.   The proposal was to partner with the Lake district and Land Trust to accomplish this.

5.    There will be a NAWCAA partner meeting on January 29, the clubs Phase IV objectives have been met.

6.    Thanks You’s were received from Jack Hayes, Hoot Johnson, and the Willow River Rod & Gun Club for support of the deer carcass dumpster.

 

 

 

            The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, February 18, 2008, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar lake.
