Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting

Monday, February 18, 2008 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 

     The February meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.      

    

Meeting Guests:  Matt Berquam – new member

 

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Committee reports for Senior Pontoon rides and Buck’s night were tabled.

 

  1. Fisheries/Habitat : 49 fish cribs were  build on Cedar lake, on Saturday, Jan. 26.   construction was complete by 1:00, with hauling them to the mid lake, east side location taking longer.  Cost per crib was about $52.  The crib hauling sleds have been upgraded with electric winches.   The state grant of $186,000 for a study of the phosphorous issues with Cedar lake has been approved.

 

  1. Park Party : The date will be Tuesday, August 12, planned entertainment will be Trigger Happy and a polka/old time band instead of the Fiddler.  Food menu will remain about the same, but with plans made to add corn on the cob to the menu.  Last years problems with ice delivery, and sharing a beer cooler, and replacing the trolley with wagons were discussed.

 

  1. McMurtrie property/Land Trust : A discussion was held on dedicating the dam area in honor of Jack Hayes for his support and dedication over the years

 

  1. Outreach/Youth : 20 wood duck nesting boxes were built by the KYI group led by Ernie Shores, total cost was $207.  A discussion was held on the benefits of a kid’s ice fishing event, or making ice fishing houses available to youth, and further club involvement in youth Hunts.

 

  1. The club has 72 members in good standing.

2.    A Cedar Lake School property ( north Cedar lake access area ) meeting was held Feb. 1.   The DNR is willing to put money in to the acquisition project to expand parking, with possible removal of the old school building.

3.    A discussion was held on planting lake vegetation closer in to the dam at the Cedar lake outlet, the Lake District would pay for the plantings with our club providing labor.

 

 

           The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2008, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar lake.
