Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting
Monday, April 21, 2008 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake
The April meeting
of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:07 pm by President Dan Bygd.
The Secretary’s and
Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.
Committee Reports :
- Senior
Pontoon ride : On Cedar Lake is scheduled for June 17, with a rain date of
June 18, the number of riders that will be accommodated was increased to
125 this year. Ray Barry will
contact pontoon drivers.
- Fisheries/Habitat
: Donations for fish cribs at Russel’s Sport & Bike were picked up by
Don Demulling, $60 to $80 was collected.
A Cedar lake cleanup to remove ice-fishing debris was completed. The last fish crib went down today.
- Park
Party : tabled
- McMurtrie
property/Land Trust : The sites for trail and nature viewing sites were
marked and GPS locations taken.
Bluebird and wood duck nesting boxes have been put in place. Projects on Service Learning day, on May
14, include; planting the rain garden with native plants, installing gates
and sign posts, digging in overflow for the rain garden, installing
screening under the dock at Cedar Bay, and constructing the Jack Hayes
memorial near the dam.
- Outreach/Youth
: A Junior Bass Masters group has been started by Indianhead Bassers, with
tournaments planned, it is open to youth 13 – 18 years old. The club voted to provide a $250
sponsorship for the group. The Boy
Scouts Order of the Arrow group will be camping at McMurtrie on Aug. 22
–24, providing one service day at the site where they will re-deck the
dam, assemble Leopold benches, and possible clear the ridge trail. There will be 25 scouts with 15 leaders. The club decided to also sell, or take
orders, for Leopold benches at club events. Additional youth events, such as ice
fishing opportunities, Learn to Hunt, and working with Kid’s Company were
discussed.
- Buck’s
Night : 276 small binoculars for
door prize have been purchased. 31
guns have also been purchased, including guns for the 10 gun external
raffle. Buck’s Night will be
Monday, November 17.
- The
club has 71 members in good standing.
Dues notices for unpaid 2008 memberships were mailed to 23, 2007
members.
Old Business/New Business:
1.
Thank You’s were received from the Bygd girls
and the Volleyball team, the Jack Hayes family, and Phyllis Menke.
2.
The annual spring ditch cleanup on Hwy 65 is
scheduled for 6:30 on April 22.
3.
A committee was formed to investigate polo
shirts with the club logo to wear at summer events.
4.
The USF&W has hired a summer intern, the
club will contribute $900 as part of the cost.
5.
A new order for club caps at $4.25 each has been
placed. 12 dozen each of orange, khaki,
and Navy are on order.
6.
USF&W waterfowl surveys on WPA’s is planned
for May and June, contact Chuck Magoon if interested.
The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, May 19,
2008, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on
Cedar lake.
With no further business the meeting was
adjourned at 8:35 pm.
