Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting

Monday, May 19, 2008 –Don Madsen’s on Cedar Lake

 

 

     The May meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:06 pm by President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.

 

Meeting Guests:    Dave Tate – Dowd Reliance Insurance

                               Dennis Earley – Cedar Lake Assoc.

                               Ron Roettger – Wis. Conservation Congress

                               Jim Reimer – USF&W   

    

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Senior Pontoon ride : On Cedar Lake is scheduled for Wed. June 11, with a rain date of June 12, the number of riders that will be accommodated was increased to 125 this year.   A trout lunch will be served to attendees.  Three vans will be provided by Johnson motors for transporting guests from the village park to the lake.   The dates were incorrectly listed as June 17 and 18th in last months minutes, the date was changed due to listing it on the 11th by Community Ed.

 

  1. Fisheries/Habitat : Jim Reimer provided an update on the spring burn season on WPA’s.   About 1200 acres were burnt to rejuvenate grasses and control brush to improve waterfowl nesting habitat.

 

  1. Park Party :  Scheduled for Aug 12, the park and coolers have been reserved.

 

  1. McMurtrie property/Land Trust : Dennis Earley discussed the plans for the Jack Hayes memorial, near the dam.   The cement base for the engraved stone has been completed, a date for a formal dedication will be set.  The property committee has been discussing sites and plans for utilities and a shelter.

 

  1. Outreach/Youth :   A kid’s Fishing day is scheduled for Sat. June 7 on Long lake near Centuria, through Indianhead Bassers, the club is a sponsor, members can contact Erv Erickson if they know of a youth that would like to take part

 

  1. Buck’s Night :  16 guns have been purchased, raffle tickets for sale by club members were distributed.  The guns and or signs for the raffle are being placed in area taverns.

 

  1. The club has 71 members in good standing.  

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Club thank you cards will be ordered by M. Kelly.

2.    Dave Tate explained the clubs liability insurance limits, there is no coverage for guns stored at private homes.   Liability issues with the fish crib sleds was also discussed.

3.    Another ditch cleanup on Hwy 65 should be done again this fall

4.    Club logo polo shirts and Tee shirts will be ordered by C. Polfus and M. Kelly..

5.    The Bob Moberg scholarship of $1000, will again be provided by the club, selection of the recipient is by the New Richmond school administration.

6.    The club was presented with an “Outstanding Achievement” award from the Conservation Congress by Ron Roettger.  The club received the highest number of votes for a Conservation club, but was not eligible for the top award due to having previously received it in the last 3 years.

7.    12 dozen each of orange, khaki, and Navy  club caps will be received at the end of July.

8.    The Star Prairie trout farm has an open house on Monday, May 26 from 1:00 to 5:00, club members are invited.

 

 

           The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, June 16, 2008, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar lake.
