Star Prairie Fish & Game Association November Meeting

Monday, July 21, 2008 –Menke’s garage at McMurtrie Preserve

 

 

     The July meeting of the SPF&G was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dan Bygd.

 

     The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were approved as read.

Committee Reports :

 

  1. Senior Pontoon ride : Held  Tues. June 17, About 100 seniors attended

 

  1. Fisheries/Habitat : Rich Miller reported on USF&W activities for the past year on Stanton Prairie, Flatters and Bierbrauer including prairie plantings, brush control and burning.

 

  1. Park Party :  Scheduled for Aug 12, Everything is on schedule, we will not share beer & ice trailers this year.   Setup will be Monday Aug 11, at 5:00.  The new club polo shirts will be worn at the party, all club workers will receive a free shirt.  Orders for Leopold benches at $25.00 will be taken at the party, Club Logo hats will also be for sale at $10.00 each.

 

  1. McMurtrie property/Land Trust : The Jack Hayes memorial, near the dam was dedicated on Saturday July 19 at 1:00, with a group of about 50 people enjoying refreshments after a brief ceremony.

 

  1. Outreach/Youth :   $250 has been donated to the KYI (Keep Youth Involved ) group for their activities and for club shirts.

 

  1. Buck’s Night :  16 guns have been purchased, about 30% of the total to be given away.   Work on the sponsors list is the next..

 

  1. The club has 73 members in good standing.  

 

Old Business/New Business:

 

1.    Phyllis Menke spoke about the history of the eagles nest on the property, it was first observed in 1976, one year a rare brood of 3 eaglets were seen, the nest was abandoned for a year in 1996, but the next year fledglings were again observed.  Phyllis also made a $1000 donation to the club.

2.    A brief discussion on a memorial for Phyllis’s late husband Bob, was left open.

3.    Sate Senator Sheila Harsdorf has requested to address the club at the next meeting, after some discussion, it was decided to accept her request.

 

           The next meeting of the SPF&GA is scheduled for Monday, August 18, 2008, with the 6 pm social hour and the 7 pm regular meeting at Don Madsen’s on Cedar lake.

 

 

 With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
